Chives Seeds

How To Grow

Sowing/Planting Seeds

  • Can be sown indoors using containers (e.g. empty tin (being careful if sharp edges on tin), a yoghurt/plastic container or similar with holes punched in the bottom for drainage) in rich soil (e.g. compost).

  • (Can also be sown outdoors directly in moderately fertile soil).

  • Full sun suits them best

  • Ensure soil is moist before sowing seeds

  • Fill container with compost, make hole less than approx. 1cm deep, water the soil once the hole has been made, place one seed in and cover with thin layer of soil, gently pressing on soil again to firm it down

  • Typically germinates in 1 – 2 weeks

  • Ensure soil remains moist, don’t allow to dry out.

Growing Time:

  • Approx. 3 months

  • Cut stalks from the base

Tip: Cut off flowers that grow to promote growth of the leaves.
