Broccoli Seeds

How To Grow

Sowing seed

  • From April to June can sow seed directly outdoors

  • Ensure is rich soil (e.g. compost) and is wet.

  • Place 1-2 seeds in soil, covering with at least 3 cm of soil

  • Allow approx. 15 cm between plants and 35 cm between rows if planting more than one row

  • Ensure they get as much direct sunlight as possible.

  • If 2 seeds germinate cut the weaker seedlings at stem, leaving the strongest remaining plant (germination approximately 10 - 14 days after sowing)

Transplanting

  • When plants are approx. 1 month in the soil, recommended to transplant (Moving to different location for optimum growing)

  • Soil to transplant into needs to be well drained, fertile soil (e.g. compost) in warm weather, in a sunny position

  • Ensure seedling has enough water - on hot days water twice per day, on dull days once every 2 days

  • Ensure soil around plant is kept weed free

  • To encourage growth and deter pests, feed every 6 – 8 weeks with organic fertiliser (e.g. dried milled  seaweed fertiliser, sachets available on sow.ie)

Growing Time:

  • Approx. 45 - 60 days

Harvest:

  • Ready to harvest when side florets start to become loose

  • Cut at base of stalk
